What kind of restaurant? How many customers / seats? Want integrated accounting and inventory tracking? What payment methods are accepted? How many pay sites / ATM plan to use? Touch-screens? Quick service (fast food) or a full-service? Server with the readers of mobile credit cards? For the display for the kitchen staff?

Given the financial constraints, it is possible that open source is the right way. If you have access to a person with experience in high-tech support.

I love it, in terms of Open Source Software Sourceforge.net. Otherwise, there is always Microsoft XP Pro platform once again proved it is not fully supported a cheap solution, but is compatible with Microsoft. Always QuickBooks or Microsoft Dynamics.

Out of the box Dell to build them, especially at the point of sale solutions, or you can adjust your own system piece by piece, I think it depends on your budget and the starting point, and all other questions were asked earlier this reply.

I want to create a secure wireless network throughout the restaurant.

With WEP encryption, and access only to MAC addresses and assigned fixed IP addresses to MAC addresses. This is not only encrypted, but that makes it extremely difficult for anyone to access the network.

That access to administrative functions of the wireless router for cable systems, not wireless.

Make sure you keep a list of all the MAC addresses and corresponding IP addresses and keys in a locked safe.

Then, create a free network on a different frequency, so that customers access the Internet as well.
